The Idea Department |
The Idea Department is a space for the discussion of politics, economics, global affairs, ethics, international relations, and related topics - brought to you by the staff and interns at Project Syndicate. |
Martin Tobias’ Project Syndicate piece entitled ‘The Diabetes Watch’, which covers the topic of the much neglected health sector dealing with effective chronic diseases, brings up important points within the realm of health and the ins and outs of what health problems are considered important, thought to require immediate attention and/or which appear to be imminent and worrisome. Though what also stands out is Tobias’ conclusion, in which he considers the importance of more global institutions to help battle diabetes, as well as local practises.
This point underlines a recurring theme appearing in many Project Syndicate articles: That of globalisation. As thousands of International Relations students, Politics students and Economics students will be faced this year with course modules on the topic of globalisation, and will most likely be set the question of its pros and cons, is it thought provoking to see its mention in such prevalent opinion pieces and more so in such a positive light.
